We all know them. The people who wear their shoes for as long as possible and then scrunch up their faces when their naked feet first touch the sand. The ones who find eating at the beach unpleasant due to the inevitable intrusion of sand into their food. The ones who are annoyed by sand on the floor mats of their cars and make a beeline to the nearest carwash after a day a the beach. These people would enjoy the beach much more if it weren’t for all the sand!
Then there are those of us who relish in the gritty, sticky, invasive stuff. Even as adults, we build sandcastles with moats, bury each other up to necks, and toss wet globs of sand at our friends and hope they’ll reciprocate. We smile when we hear the familiar crunch of sand in our snack foods. We’re comfortable with sand in our bathing suits and enjoy a pleasant memory when we feel a grain of sand on our scalps or some other unexpected place on our bodies days after our last visit to the beach. We are the ones who know that you can’t be a beach lover if you hate sand!
